I offer a FREE face-to-face consultation worth £200.00

Prior to becoming a Hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner, I spent over a decade working with children in various child-care settings, ranging from Private Day Nurseries (from a Nursery Nurse level up to Nursery Manager), in Schools, Crèches, as a Nanny and for the NHS as part of the Health Visiting and Midwifery Team as a Nursery Nurse in (NNEB). Later I completed CBT level 4 Training and I became a BPS graduate member with an MSc in psychology.

Now, in my work as a Hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner and trainer, I am able to use both sets of skills. I relate to children and students in a way that empowers them and engages them with their imagination to create the subconscious developments that need to be made. For me, NLP4Kids is a result of my childcare expertise and my strategic skills in NLP and Hypnotherapy colliding! I specialise in working with children who have selective mutism (a form of anxiety disorder) and also work with those who have low confidence, separation anxiety or behavioural problems as a result of family traumas such as divorce and separation.

I am the director of NLP4Kids and trainer of the Licensed NLP4Kids Practitioners. I am also the author of ‘Stop Anxiety and Grow Confidence’ which is a book for parents and professionals.

My practice is based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and borders Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, meaning I am accessible to those in neighbouring areas such as North London, Watford, Berkhamsted, St Albans, Harpenden and Tring.

How Does Our Therapy Help Children and Young People?

We use a combination of safe and effective therapies with children and teenagers that help them learn how to control their thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Our practitioners are specialists in working with children using a form of therapy called NLP. This stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. "Neuro" relates to the brain and "linguistic" refers to language and how it is used inside the mind and out of the mouth! "Programming" describes the patterns and habits created, learnt and followed. Using NLP techniques and strategies, (which we have adapted to be fun, safe and easy for children and teenagers to use) we give young people the skills to think in new ways so that they feel in control [Read More]

Using NLP techniques and strategies, (which we have adapted to be fun, safe and easy for children and teenagers to use) we give young people the skills to think in new ways so that they feel in control and learn to understand the world from the perspective of others as well as their own. NLP is a cognitive form of therapy, with some parallels to CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy.) Our work is effective in helping children overcome bad habits, behaviour problems, fears and self esteem problems as well as many other challenges. (See the list below for more suggestions about the types of problems we can help with.)

In addition, our practitioners may have qualifications in other specialist therapies, such as EFT/TFT (tapping techniques), Coaching, Counselling and Hypnotherapy for children.

Hypnosis is perfectly safe for children because it is a relaxed state that they already utilise when learning, watching television or doing something creative. Some children will be able to experience a deep, eyes closed relaxing trance. Young children are usually more suited to an awakened trance. This is induced when playing games, colouring or whilst other activities that our Hypnotherapy4Kids practitioners have been trained to use. Our Hypnotherapists will notice the subtle shifts in your child’s levels of awareness so that they can begin to implant suggestions for change or improvement as soon as they see that an awakened trance is achieved.

The first step in helping your child is to contact a practitioner who is local to you. You can call them on the number above or complete the contact box below if you would like the practitioner to contact you. They will conduct a consultation with you, either over the phone or in person. Once they have understood the challenges your child is facing, they will invite you and your child to meet with them. If you decide to go ahead with some therapy or coaching sessions for your child, the therapist will advise you of the best course of action. Your therapist will give you feedback and advise to help you support your child and you will remain in full control of the number of sessions you book and how often. [Read Less]

  1. “Thanks so much for all your help Gemma
Every day she is more and more like my little girl again!!”

“I think it is the unconscious changes that made the difference, and our feedback sessions. I think my overall levels of confidence have grown.”
    Thomas, age 15 years.

  3. “Her confidence has definitely improved and she is now dealing with the friend issue at school very well. The school has just telephoned me today to let me know how mature she has been and that they feel she has more confidence. She has a group of friends now and although she doesn’t socialise with them out of school yet, I am sure that this will develop.
She got a merit for her ballet but a distinction for her tap, she is over the moon!! The teacher has now put her in for another exam in July. Thanks for all your help.”
Parent of SB, age 14 years.

  4. “He enjoyed his sessions with you and has definitely taken the lessons learnt and is using them without even realising he’s doing it. We were watching I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and the contestants had to remember where random pictures were on a board. He remembered the place of every one of them and was screaming at the TV!!!! Afterwards I asked him how he remembered, he said he had used your method.”
Parent of LP, age 11 years.

  5. “I just wanted to let you know how AJ is getting on. He passed his 12+ and is now attending Grammar School! He’s a much more positive person now and I wanted to thank you so much for all your help.”
Parent of AJ, age 11 years.

I thought you might be wondering how we are getting along.

Well I am now feeling like I am getting my little girl back. She has not had a tantrum for weeks now and seems much happier and settled in herself. There are a few odd grumps but nothing that she/we can’t handle. She seems to be getting on much better with her sister too.

Last night was amazing – she was over tired (been having trouble sleeping in the heat) and getting herself wound up about going to bed and started arguing with me. I just walked away and left her, and within five minutes she came to find me with the most beautiful heartfelt apology ever. Really calm and really grown up. I heaped the praise on her and she went straight to sleep after that.

We have also managed to have some lovely family days out which we struggled to do before as her behaviour was so unpredictable.

I have a small concern about how she will handle the transition into the school holidays and then starting with a new teacher/new classroom in September, although I actually think it might help her as she will be part of a new experience with the whole class, rather than being the new girl coming in to an existing situation.

Anyway, all is good for now. We are still sticking to your plan/advice as much as we possibly can, although the reward chart has phased itself out as she earnt a big reward and now there seems less need for it. However if things go downhill we will certainly pick up with it again straight away.

So a big thank you for all your help and for giving me my little girl back again.

A few years ago my nephew was suffering from extreme height phobia. This negatively effected his basic day to day activities and made it difficult for him to get on with life not just at home but also school. Within one session my nephew’s phobia was totally eliminated to the extent that he wanted to go Bungee Jumping after the session. He is much happier at school and it has had a positive impact on his social life. As a Secondary School Teacher, I would strongly recommend the work Gemma is doing at NLP4kids, the work is trans formative and we desperately need more organisations like this to empower the next generation of young people.
