Is your child or a young person’s behaviour and/or emotions worrying you?

If you are worried about a child or young person, encouraging them to talk can be very helpful.

If you think a child you know has a problem, it can be hard to know how to start talking to them about it. When there are problems at home, such as parents fighting, divorce or a death in the family, children, and young people can become withdrawn and upset.

Being able to talk to someone other than a parent is sometimes very helpful for children and young people. It can be difficult to know if there is something upsetting a child or young person, but there are ways to spot when something’s wrong. A variety of signs and behaviours can indicate a child or young person needs therapeutic support.

  • significant changes in behaviour
  • ongoing difficulty sleeping
  • withdrawing from social situations
  • not wanting to do things they usually like
  • self-harm or neglecting themselves
  • school refusal
  • Eating habit changes
  • Social anxiety
  • Separation anxiety

Everyone feels low, angry, or anxious at times. But when these changes last for a long time or are significantly affecting them, it might be time to get additional therapeutic help. My number one goal is to help children and young people overcome their challenges by supporting them in their aspirations to lead a happier and healthier life that is more flexible and resistant to future challenges.

I am passionate about my work and the long-term benefits of therapy and I am committed to making a difference to children and young people’s lives. I believe that every child and young person is unique. I value them as individuals with their own mind, views, and way of seeing the world. I understand the need to be heard. I am passionate about providing the right environment to listen, to support and to help children and young people to take control of their lives.

Experience over the years has enabled me to value each individual and has provided me with the insight and tools to support children/young people on their therapy journey. I have been working with children and young people for the past 22years, in schools as a teacher, deputy headteacher and then as a Headteacher. As well as privately supporting families and children struggling in their home environment, I have experience working with children with additional educational needs, children on the autistic spectrum and those with emotional, social, behavioural, and physical disabilities.

I use a child-centred approach to therapy, with creative work and talk, to help children express their thoughts and feelings in a way that is comfortable and natural for them. My Integrative approach means that I draw on several theories and traditions from therapeutic work, including NLP, mindfulness, and hypnotherapy. I can work in a way that is responsive to each child and their own needs, rather than using a single approach for all.

Every individual is unique and has different needs, so I will always tailor my approach to suit the child or young person. I believe that everyone has the ability to grow with the right support.

I can offer support with emotional and behavioural issues that children and young people may be experiencing. Some of the issues I have worked with include: attachment difficulties; angry, aggressive or destructive outbursts; bereavement issues or loss; a lack of confidence, low self-esteem; shyness, unusually quiet or withdrawal; traumatic incidents; the effects of divorce or separation; bullying; behaviour difficulties at home, school or both; ADD / ADHD, Anger management; Asperger syndrome; Anxiety; Child related issues; Sleep issues; Depression; Self-esteem; Self-harm; Stress- school or home; Phobias.

My first session

I always offer the first session “Consultation”, completely free of charge.

I think it is so important that the child or young person feels comfortable with me. This way I can also determine whether I think the therapeutic approaches I use, may be of benefit to them.

How Does Our Therapy Help Children and Young People?

We use a combination of safe and effective therapies with children and teenagers that help them learn how to control their thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Our practitioners are specialists in working with children using a form of therapy called NLP. This stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. "Neuro" relates to the brain and "linguistic" refers to language and how it is used inside the mind and out of the mouth! "Programming" describes the patterns and habits created, learnt and followed. Using NLP techniques and strategies, (which we have adapted to be fun, safe and easy for children and teenagers to use) we give young people the skills to think in new ways so that they feel in control [Read More]

Using NLP techniques and strategies, (which we have adapted to be fun, safe and easy for children and teenagers to use) we give young people the skills to think in new ways so that they feel in control and learn to understand the world from the perspective of others as well as their own. NLP is a cognitive form of therapy, with some parallels to CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy.) Our work is effective in helping children overcome bad habits, behaviour problems, fears and self esteem problems as well as many other challenges. (See the list below for more suggestions about the types of problems we can help with.)

In addition, our practitioners may have qualifications in other specialist therapies, such as EFT/TFT (tapping techniques), Coaching, Counselling and Hypnotherapy for children.

Hypnosis is perfectly safe for children because it is a relaxed state that they already utilise when learning, watching television or doing something creative. Some children will be able to experience a deep, eyes closed relaxing trance. Young children are usually more suited to an awakened trance. This is induced when playing games, colouring or whilst other activities that our Hypnotherapy4Kids practitioners have been trained to use. Our Hypnotherapists will notice the subtle shifts in your childs levels of awareness so that they can begin to implant suggestions for change or improvement as soon as they see that an awakened trance is achieved.

The first step in helping your child is to contact a practitioner who is local to you. You can call them on the number above or complete the contact box below if you would like the practitioner to contact you. They will conduct a consultation with you, either over the phone or in person. Once they have understood the challenges your child is facing, they will invite you and your child to meet with them. If you decide to go ahead with some therapy or coaching sessions for your child, the therapist will advise you of the best course of action. Your therapist will give you feedback and advise to help you support your child and you will remain in full control of the number of sessions you book and how often. [Read Less]
