Why a Pause in Progress Might Mean You’re About to Grow

When the Business Seasons Change: Why a Slow Period Might Be Your Time to Plant Seeds

Over the last eighteen months, something unusual has been happening. Our children’s franchise sales have been quieter than usual. Not disastrous, not failing – just… different.

We haven’t changed our pricing model or altered what we offer. The world, however, has shifted in ways that have left many people feeling uncertain. The news cycle keeps fear on a slow boil, and for anyone thinking of starting their own business, it’s easy to let that unease press pause on your ambitions.

The Paradox of a Busy Team and a Quiet Market

Here’s the strange part. While franchise sales have slowed, our practitioners have never been busier. The challenges children face today – from anxiety to self-harm to social disconnection – are only increasing. Our children’s franchise network is stretched to capacity meeting those needs.

So, the demand is there. The model works. But potential new franchisees seem to be hesitating. And that got me thinking: what’s really going on here?

Maybe you’re one of the many people who’ve been reading our newsletters for months or even years, mulling over the idea of building something meaningful of your own. You might be waiting for the “right time.” But what if waiting is part of the story too?

Sometimes, what looks like stillness is really preparation.

A Season of Planting, Not Harvesting

For years, we’ve had periods of growth and periods of harvest – those times when new franchisees join the family, and we celebrate their success stories. But recently, I’ve begun to see that perhaps we’re in a different kind of season. A planting season.

A season like this isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t bring instant gratification. But it gives us something more valuable: the chance to strengthen the roots of what we do.

This quieter period has allowed me to do something I rarely get to do – pause, reflect, and refocus. Instead of constantly training new franchisees or chasing enquiries, I’ve been able to pour energy into the people already here, refining our delivery methods and upskilling our existing team.

Investing in Gold-Standard Skills

One of the most exciting developments during this time has been introducing training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – a gold standard, evidence-based treatment for self-harming, borderline personality disorder, addictions, and compulsive habits.

Our practitioners now have the opportunity to add DBT to their toolkit at a remarkably low cost. It’s practical, scientifically validated, and entirely aligned with our mission to bring effective emotional support to children and families.

Progress doesn’t always look like expansion. Sometimes it looks like deepening your expertise.

If You’re in a Waiting Season Too…

Maybe you’ve been feeling the same kind of frustration. You know there’s something bigger you want to do – to make a difference, to build your own children’s franchise – but somehow, you haven’t yet taken that final step.

Perhaps that’s not failure. Perhaps it’s just your planting season. The time you’re meant to be gathering skills, strengthening your resolve, or waiting for the ground beneath you to thaw a little.

And when you’re ready – when your season shifts – we’ll be here. Ready to welcome you, train you, and help you grow something extraordinary from the seeds you’ve been quietly planting all along.
