Parents & Professionals: When it’s Behaviour and Not Anxiety
Ok, confession time. I *think* sometimes poor behaviour is getting labelled up as anxiety in children and young people.
I’ve thought this for a while and today I decided to fess-up publicly and say so.
So young people need boundaries and fewer options to help them cope better. They need to be given a sense of certainty by the adults in their lives. This is a different problem to anxiety and it should be dealt with differently.
Maybe I’m wrong – I’d be happy to hear your opinion too!

For me “Poor” behaviour is most often a sign that what is being expected of a child is greater than the resources they have available to cope! There is only good or bad behaviour when we judge it so. Behaviour is often the only means of communication a child has in an adult oriented world. Behaviour is communication!
