Stop Coronavirus Worries & Anxiety: Children and Young People

Children & Young People:
How to Be Honest Without Causing Worry: Parents and Professionals

Whilst this video isn’t explicitly about coronavirus, it would be silly not to talk about it. In fact, since I recorded this, the schools closed down and most young people are at home.

It’s a very strange time for all of us but worrying about it changes NOTHING. It just makes you feel bad and there’s lots of other ways in which we can use our time and energy positively, even thought this time might be difficult.

Sometimes letting go of worries is something you have to put effort into. They might not go away just because you do not want them there. In this video, I’ll give you 3 simple ways to get them back under your control.

Keep safe by keeping far from others, wash your hands but keep talking and reaching out to others as much as you can too.

Stop Being Flaky – A How To Guide for Parents and Professionals

We all know that some parents and professionals end up being flaky, but I want to share with you some of the reasons why I think it happens. The challenge with this subject area is that there is a balancing act going on between the desire to gain respect and the desire to be liked (or in the case of a parent wanting to be loved).

Children learn from a very young age how to negotiate and how to manipulate people. This starts really young and the challenge is that if the ground rules are not laid down early on then …

Read the article here

This video was a made a few days ago and already some of the information may seem a little dated, however, the advice is still the same. It’s really important that we do not adversely affect children’s mental health by exposing them to too much negativity associated to coronavirus, but we must be honest with them too.

1. Consider their maturity before going into too much detail, particularly the details that relate to illness or threats to life that can cause them to worry.

2. Remind them that most humans are strong and that there are some very clever people helping others to get better and to be protected in the future. These people are the world’s superheroes.

3. Get them to self create certainty but getting them to creatively problem solve the things they may be worried about.

Stay safe and well.

The current government advice is that unless you require essential food/medicines items you must stay at home. If you go out, you must keep a 2-meter distance between yourself and others if you do go out. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds on a frequent basis. Work from home and if you are not a key worker requiring childcare, please keep your children at home.

The Superheroes Podcast

This podcast helps to highlight cases of missing young people when mental health issues could be either a cause or a consequence of their disappearance.

Our second case is the bizarre disappearance of Andrew Gosden, who was 14 years old. Andrew pretended to go to school but was actually headed to London (from his home in Doncaster). He was caught on CCTV and hasn’t been seen since.
