How to Talk About Problems: Children and Young People

Tips for talking about your problems include: Start with the facts. Don’t worry about getting into your emotions if you feel uncomfortable. Utilise the NLP strategy of ‘submodalities’ – this is fully explained in the video. Do some research on other people’s embarrassing stories – chances are they’re a lot worse than anything you’ll say when you talk about your problems. People can share uncomfortable things about themselves and survive! Move your focus away from what will happen in the moment and to how much better you will feel having unburdened yourself from this problem.

That way your focus won’t be on losing control of your emotions in the moment.
