Child Anger


As a parent, it can be challenging to witness your child express anger, frustration, or other strong emotions. It’s natural to want to soothe and calm them, but it’s important to understand that anger is a natural human emotion, and it’s important for children to learn how to manage it in a healthy way.

By modelling these behaviours, you can teach your child how to handle anger in a healthy way.
  4. Teach your child healthy coping mechanisms. In addition to modelling healthy anger management, it’s important to teach your child healthy coping mechanisms. This might include deep breathing exercises, mindfulness practices, or physical activities like exercise or yoga. Encourage your child to try different coping mechanisms and find what works best for them.
  5. Set clear boundaries and consequences. While it’s important to validate your child’s emotions, it’s also important to set clear boundaries and consequences for unacceptable behaviour. Make it clear that while anger is a natural emotion, it’s not acceptable to lash out or engage in violent or harmful behaviour. Establish clear consequences for such behaviour, and make sure your child understands the expectations and consequences.
  6. Seek outside help if necessary. If your child’s anger is persistent or severe, it may be helpful to seek outside help from a mental health professional. A therapist can help your child develop healthy coping mechanisms, work through underlying issues, and learn how to manage their anger in a healthy way.
