The Dangers of Too Many Choices: Parents & Professionals

We know that when someone feels overwhelmed, they may be more likely to get anxious and feel under pressure. Whilst me might see having choices as advantageous, too many choices can definitely induce overwhelm.

Have you heard of choice overload? This is when there are so many choices it causes a type of brain-freeze. It can be detrimental to wellbeing. The right number of choices is alleged to be between 8 and 15 things. 

There’s also some merit in sometimes not having the choices you would want made available to you. It can force new experiences to happen and might serve as a more realistic representation of what life is like – you can’t always get what you want but perhaps what you end up with is better.
