Stop it with The Labels!: Parents & Professionals

Since the birth of modern psychology in 1879, there have been more refined and accurate diagnosis of mental health difficulties and learning differences. As awareness of these have increase, so has casual labelling of traits that we recognise from the world of psychology.

However, having a label – an official or unofficial one – is not always helpful to an individual. In this video you’ll begin to understand what happens to an individual and all of those around them when a label has been given.

Of course, it is without question that diagnosis is an important thing, for example in accessing the right support in education and it can aid someone in having a better understanding of themselves and their differences. But it is not what defines a person, they’ll always be so much more than their label.
