Does your child refuse to go to school? Perhaps they are being bullied? Maybe they’re anxious about moving up a school year, starting a new school or sitting exams?

These are all significant challenges that many children face and don’t have the tools to deal with.

I was an extremely anxious child, I found my school life exceptionally difficult, frequently worrying that I couldn’t live up to expectations. Even though I received fairly good grades and had some friends, I never quite felt good enough and considered myself inadequate compared to my peers.  Due to this low self-esteem and anxiety, I have also experienced bullying first hand. I was often picked on in the playground and the classroom and didn’t know how to stand up for myself. I frequently used to wonder what more I could have done with my life, what else I could have achieved if only I’d had more confidence in myself and my abilities.

Can you imagine your child having the confidence, self-belief and determination it takes many of us a lifetime to achieve all before leaving school? As an NLP4Kids practitioner, I show children, parents and carers the techniques I learned that have taught me how to feel confident, communicate effectively and have the self-belief to achieve my full potential. With these skills, I have fulfilled my dreams of becoming an NLP therapist and Author of The Feelings Basket book series.

Feeling anxious and being bullied can have such a detrimental effect on your child’s formative years. That’s why I specialise in these 2 areas:

Anxiety

Does your child seem overly anxious when faced with new situations? Maybe they’re faking illness on a school day or becoming withdrawn during the morning routine? Or perhaps your child is struggling to talk to others or interact in groups?

Do these sound familiar? If so it’s possible that your child is suffering from a form of anxiety. I work with children to identify the root cause of their anxiety and develop new tools and techniques to eliminate it and provide them with new empowering alternative actions.

I provide this support through:

  • 1 to 1 sessions (privately or through schools)
  • Group confidence building sessions (through schools)

“The moment you meet Debbie you know your child will be in safe hands, she has a natural warmth and caring nature. Our son immediately opened himself up to her and in a short space of time we saw the changes”

Bullying

I provide support to children and young adults who have also been subjected to bullying behaviour. I teach them how to build confidence, eliminate the trauma of past events and provide them with the tools and techniques to develop valuable relationships.

I deliver this support through:

  • 1 to 1 support for children who are being bullied (privately or through schools)
  • 1 to 1 support for children who are displaying bulling behaviour (privately or through schools)
  • Buddies not Bullies workshops (through schools)

“Our child was starting to bully other children following a family bereavement. Debbie helped him manage his anger and build his self-esteem. We’ve got our lovely boy back.”

Additional support for parents and carers.

I understand how much pain you, as a parent feel, when you see your child struggle with these issues. For that reason, I also provide extra support to parents giving you additional tools and techniques to use at home to reinforce your child’s learning and boost their confidence even further.

“It’s easy to look at your child and think they are the cause of their behaviour. Debbie helped us see what we were doing to perpetuate our child’s behaviour and gave us tools to help make changes for the better. Thank you.”

With over 15 years’ experience and training in Psychology, Coaching and Communication, I am equally at home running workshops as I am working 1 to 1.

My aim is simple: To empower all children and young adults to reach their full potential.

If you are a parent or carer and you feel your child is struggling with anxiety or being bullied or you’re a teacher and you’d like some 1 to 1 support for a specific child or you’re interested in the Buddies not Bullies workshop, please give me a call on 07747 090871 or email me at: DebbieK@NLP4Kids.org for a FREE initial consultation. I am located in Codnor, Derbyshire, DE5 9QB.

How Does Our Therapy Help Children and Young People?

We use a combination of safe and effective therapies with children and teenagers that help them learn how to control their thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Our practitioners are specialists in working with children using a form of therapy called NLP. This stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. "Neuro" relates to the brain and "linguistic" refers to language and how it is used inside the mind and out of the mouth! "Programming" describes the patterns and habits created, learnt and followed. Using NLP techniques and strategies, (which we have adapted to be fun, safe and easy for children and teenagers to use) we give young people the skills to think in new ways so that they feel in control and learn to understand the world from the perspective of others as well as their own. NLP is a cognitive form of therapy, with some parallels to CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy.) Our work is effective in helping children overcome bad habits, behaviour problems, fears and self esteem problems as well as many other challenges. (See the list below for more suggestions about the types of problems we can help with.)

In addition, our practitioners may have qualifications in other specialist therapies, such as EFT/TFT (tapping techniques), Coaching, Counselling and Hypnotherapy for children.

Hypnosis is perfectly safe for children because it is a relaxed state that they already utilise when learning, watching television or doing something creative. Some children will be able to experience a deep, eyes closed relaxing trance. Young children are usually more suited to an awakened trance. This is induced when playing games, colouring or whilst other activities that our Hypnotherapy4Kids practitioners have been trained to use. Our Hypnotherapists will notice the subtle shifts in your childs levels of awareness so that they can begin to implant suggestions for change or improvement as soon as they see that an awakened trance is achieved.

The first step in helping your child is to contact a practitioner who is local to you. You can call them on the number above or complete the contact box below if you would like the practitioner to contact you. They will conduct a consultation with you, either over the phone or in person. Once they have understood the challenges your child is facing, they will invite you and your child to meet with them. If you decide to go ahead with some therapy or coaching sessions for your child, the therapist will advise you of the best course of action. Your therapist will give you feedback and advise to help you support your child and you will remain in full control of the number of sessions you book and how often. [Read Less]

“Her confidence has definitely improved and she is now dealing with the friend issue at school very well. She has a group of friends now and although she doesn’t socialise with them out of school yet, I am sure that this will develop. She got a merit for her ballet and a distinction for her tap, she is over the moon!! The teacher has now put her in for another exam in July. Thanks for all your help.”

“Having lived with a difficulty with spelling and reading all my life it has come as quite a surprise that I can learn a new skill to improve both. With Debbie’s expert guidance I have been able to change the way I look at words and create a confidence that I have not possessed in the past. It has been some weeks since Debbie completed the one to one sessions and I have found that I am naturally using the skills everyday at work and generally in my home life.

The secret to the success has been a combination of three things.

First, the skills that I have learned with Debbie undoubtedly work and have demonstrably changed my ability to spell and read.

Second, Debbie quickly understood me and created ways where we could overcome my particular barriers to learning so that I could progress with the acquisition of the new skill.

Third, Debbie’s natural ability, confidence and enthusiasm ensured that I put in the work necessary to achieve my goals.”

“From our first meeting my daughter and I felt relaxed and comfortable talking to Debbie. My daughter always responded well to the sessions and came out happy and positive. She has given us techniques that we can use moving forward and we often read stories at bedtime that Debbie gave us that reinforce these techniques.”

“I took my son to see Debbie because he had a very frequent habit of pulling on the back of his top, saying that it was annoying him and he hated wearing anything on top, such as a coat or jumper. This often caused big problems as he was not warm enough to go outside and it caused tears and arguments. Debbie just sat and talked with him, drawing pictures and building Lego and got him to take control of this habit and stop it. It has now completely gone.

She also delved into his frustrations and his complaining about hating school. It developed into him having to be dragged off me at drop off, crying and shouting that he hated school. A tearful experience for us both. Debbie worked with him and sorted it out. The crying stopped and he was once again happy to go into school.

I am so pleased that Debbie was recommended to us and now I would like to recommend her, as she has helped us so wonderfully.”

We are very pleased with the consultation provided by Debbie to our 5 year old son. Besides helping him overcome some basic emotions of fear and building confidence, her guidance to him for getting prepared to be a big brother to our new arrival was extremely beneficial. He was very supportive and took the new arrival as a welcome change in the family which is a major concern when you have a new member joining the family. Highly recommend Debbie for her expertise in helping kids with the appropriate guidance and support.

T was lacking in self esteem, anxious and vulnerable for all of his successes he was never content and it was never good enough. We went to Debbie with an open mind but not sure if she could help, we were desperate to show him who he was and our efforts were just not working. The moment you meet Debbie you know your child will be in safe hands, she has a natural warmth and caring nature T immediately opened himself up to her and in a short time we saw the changes. In a few words Debbie has a fantastic ability to make your child feel at ease and has the skills to work with them in so many ways. Debbie has helped us all to understand and T knows how to cope when he has a bad day. As a family we are so grateful and know that if we ever need Debbie she will be there for us.
Thank you from all of us you are a very special person.
